Our family loves to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade before we have our lunch. A couple of us wanted to see it in person, so we planned a trip. I tried to find a way to get on one of the crews to help carry one of the big balloons, but I couldn’t make it happen.
We all flew up separately and met in New York. We spent the first night walking around Times Square and seeing the city at night. We were staying at the Roosevelt Hotel. It was an old hotel with a great lobby that was in lots of movies and TV shows. The rooms were typical New York, small and old.
We did the hop on/hop off bus tour. It was a beautiful day but really cold. The bus tour was handing out Despicable Me Minion wool hats. We went to the World Trade Center construction site and took the Staten Island Ferry across to get close to the Statue of Liberty. Boomie bought about 6 fake Rolex watches from different vendors. He loved it! That night, we got dinner at Grey’s Papaya, went to Times Square and saw Wicked for the first time. It was awesome!
We woke up early to get good seats for the Macy’s parade. It was freezing cold. We got there early enough to get a front row spot. We were probably there for 3 or 4 hours before the parade finally started. It was pretty cool. We saw lots of stars on the floats; Jimmy Fallon and the Roots, Kanye West, Jessica Simpson, etc. After the parade, we had Thanksgiving lunch at Virgil’s BBQ. Then, we did some more sightseeing. We finished the night off with dinner at Carnegie Deli.
The next day, we woke up super early to go to the Today show. Justin Beiber was going to be on it and Ashton was really excited. We got to see Beiber and even got on TV. Jim Brown’s saw me on TV in a sea of people and took a picture. We went to the Top of the Rock to get a great view of the city and then had lunch at the Boat House in Central Park. After that, we went to the Natural History Museum. Mitch and Shannon’s family flew home, so Mitch could preach. The rest of us stayed one more night. We had frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity. Later that night, we went to see the Rockettes Christmas show at Radio City this night.
Before we flew home. We took the kids to Macy’s to see Santa.
