10/2 – 10/4/2012
One of my favorite things to redeem points on is experiences and SPG use to have the best deals. For only 3,000 SPG points, I won an auction for two suite tickets to a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Trey and I had never been to Wrigley before, so we were really excited. We flew for free using Southwest points for me and my Companion Pass for Trey. We stayed on points at a Hilton near Midway airport. We didn’t get a car, we just took the train everywhere. We flew out late on Wednesday night and checked in to the hotel.
The next morning, we had breakfast in the hotel and then headed to Wrigley. We walked around the outside of Wrigley and went in all the stores. Trey got a cub stuffed animal. At 11, we picked up our tickets at Will Call. The gates opened shortly thereafter so we went in and walked around. Our tickets were for the SPG suite, so we went up to check it out and put our stuff down. The suite was right behind home plate. It held about 12 people. They had a really nice spread of food. One of the ushers told us that she thought the players might be doing something special, because this was the last game of the year. We left the suite and went to see if we could get some player autographs. We camped out close to the field. The players finally came out and they each had a bag full of baseballs that they had autographed. They then started handing them out and throwing them into the stands. We had a prime spot and with my glove, and skills, I was able to catch about 7 or 8 balls. I caught so many, that I started sharing with other people. We wend back to the suite and had some lunch and enjoyed the game. The Cubs won versus the Astros. We got to sing “Take me Out to the Ballgame”. After the game, it was our first time to hear the fans sing the “Go Cubs Go song”.
We hung around for awhile, before heading into town to look around Millineal Park and some of the other sights. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped for deep dish pizza at Giordanos. After we ate, we walked back to the hotel. There was a cool moment when we were right outside of Midway airport and a landing plane flew right over our heads.
