Virgin Islands (St. Thomas and St. John)

12/27 – 12/31/12

We had a bunch of Delta airmiles that were going to expire soon and I found 4 tickets to St. Thomas, so that was good enough reason to take our first trip to the Virgin Islands. We flew through Atlanta and arrived in St. Thomas late in the afternoon. We got a piece of junk rental car and drove to St. John. You have to take a car ferry across to St. John. By the time we got their, it was dark. We drove off the boat and made the short drive to the Westin St. John Resort and Villas. I had reserved a room using Starwood points. The resort was beautiful with a lot to do. We swam at the pools and beaches a lot and even played some tennis. They even had movies by the pool a few nights. Our room wasn’t great and was a little run down, but it served its purpose. The beach at the resort was beautiful with some good snorkeling. The restaurants were pretty expensive. We ate some at a pizza cafe and the pool grill. There was also a grocery store near by where we purchased stuff for breakfast and snacks.

We explored the St. John and loved it. The roads were extremely hilly but scenic. I’d stop every few miles to take pictures. It had the most beautiful beaches that I have ever seen. Our favorite was Trunk Bay. The beach was like a postcard. There was an underwater snorkeling track that Natalie and I enjoyed. The only problem that we found out after we left was that some of the beaches had sand fleas that ate us up pretty good.  St. John did have a pretty neat little town with shops and restaurants.

When our time in St. John was over, we took the ferry back to St. Thomas. We had time to explore and took a gondola up to a scenic overlook of the cruise ship port.
