Natalie and I both really like the band Paramore. When I found a deal for a meet and greet for a band called Metric, I jumped on it, because they were opening for Paramore. The package was through SPG Moments and only cost 5000 Starwood Points. The catch was, that the concert was in Philadelphia. This gave me a chance for Natalie and I to do a trip with just the two of us. For the flights, I actually paid cash. US Airways was running a special fare of $87 for a round trip from DFW to PHL. Sometimes it makes more sense to pay cash instead of points.
We flew out early Friday morning. We got to the airport and killed some time in the new American Express Centurion Lounge. The lounge offers complimentary food and drink and spa treatments. Natalie got a manicure and I got a massage.
When we arrived in Philly, we took the subway to our downtown hotel. We stayed at the Doubletree City Center for 16,000 Hilton points + $65. The hotel was acceptable and we got a nice upgrade to a suite on a high floor. We had a little time in the hotel and then we went to dinner and took a cab to the concert across the river in New Jersey. We met up with the promotion guy and he led us back to meet Metric. They were really nice and easy to talk to. A couple of the guys went to school at North Texas. We got a picture with them and then we were done. The promotion guy let Natalie pick out any merch that she wanted from the shop. I asked him if we could meet Paramore. He texted their manager and he quickly responded that they had already finished their meet and greet. The concert was really good. We enjoyed both Metric and Paramore. When it was over, we taxied back to the hotel and crashed.
On Saturday evening, we were flying home, so we had some time to play first. We breakfast for free in the hotel restaurant and went for a swim. Then we went out to do some sight seeing. We saw the big sights, the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. It was almost time to leave, but I wanted to get a Philly Cheesesteak. We looked all over and couldn’t find one, so I ended up getting one in the mall food court. FAIL!
