For Christmas, I got Trey a trip to Washington DC to see the Rangers vs. the Nationals. We flew for free on Southwest Airlines using points for my ticket and a Companion Pass for Trey. We arrived in Washington late on Friday night and went straight to our hotel. We were staying at the Radisson by the airport for free using points for the first night a we got the second night free. The next morning, we grabbed breakfast for free in the hotel. Then we headed to the Nationals stadium. We were within walking distance to the Metro so we took it to the stadium. We got to the stadium early and walked around to check it out. We were disappointed that the teams weren’t doing batting practice, but we did get to watch the players warm up. Trey got a few autographs including Adrian Beltre and Shin Soo Choo. The stadium is new and really nice. It has great restaurants, including Shake Shack. I got a great deal on seats. We were in the front row just past 3rd base. The weather was fantastic and the game was fun, even though the Rangers lost.
After the game, we took the metro down to the Mall area to do some sight seeing. We went in a couple of the Smithsonian buildings and then had a game of catch on the Mall grass between the Washington Monument and the Capital. After that, we rented bikes. I didn’t think Trey could do it because they were full size bikes and really heavy. He did great and we had a really fun time riding around the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and White House. This was our favorite part of the trip. We were exhausted after our long day, so we went back to our hotel. We grabbed dinner at Legal Seafoods by the hotel. The next day, we were leaving late in the afternoon and we had no plans. So, we bought cheap tickets and went to the Rangers vs. Nationals game again. Yu Darvish was pitching and we wanted more Shake Shack. We weren’t able to stay for the whole game, but still had a good time.
