Jim woke up early and couldn’t sleep because he still hadn’t adjusted to the timezone (Kenya is 7 hours ahead of NY). So, he walked around New York. He walked around Time Square, Central Park, and then all the way back to the hotel. On the way, he stopped off to see what was going on at the Today show and got one of the Fox News morning shows. Luckily through Jim’s (OCD) collecting of hotel points/awards, we had a credit to use at the hotel so we had room service breakfast that was amazing. The lemon poppy seed pancakes were legit. Our diet starts when we get home! Now we are on our Southwest flight back to Dallas. It was so nice to be HOME!
It was an amazing trip. We feel so blessed to have gotten to go. Jim and I have experienced missions domestically and we know that you go to help others and always get more personally from the trip than you give. This trip was no exception. It was good to get out of our “bubble” and go SO FAR from home to see things that are drastically different from anything in America. There are poor people in America, but nothing to the magnitude of that in other places in the world. Even after seeing it, I know there is SO much more than I can ever comprehend. Every time we travel my world view expands, I pray that I can have more understanding and compassion for those at home because of this experience.
We are glad that our kids got to have this experience and see that serving others and sharing God’s love is FUN and blesses you. We are also thrilled that we got to go with four other families. All being parts of God’s body and having different gifts was discussed several times and really stood out to me. We are all blessed with different skills and with different personalities and God can use each one for His purposes. We were nervous about putting ourselves in dangerous environments. Kenya has had lots of terrorism in the last year and Egypt has some political turmoil. We felt a calling to go on this trip and felt God would protect us. We never felt we were in danger at any point of this trip although there were times were felt uncomfortable. Our safety was always a priority to our trip leader, Mike and our local guides.
