Trey and I took a quick trip out to San Diego to see the Rangers play. We been to the San Diego Padres stadium, Petco Park, before, but hadn’t been inside for a game. This was going to be a quick, one day trip. I wasn’t looking forward to all that flying, but that didn’t stop me.
We flew out of Love at 6:40 am on Southwest. Trey was free because of my companion pass. The flight was easy and on time and I even slept for about 2 of the 3 hour flight. We were traveling without bags, so we got out of the airport quickly. It was 60 degrees and overcast in the early morning. Right outside the airport, we rented some bikes from a Decobike machine. We rode from the airport to downtown alongside Harbor Drive. We rode past a Coast Guard base, the Harbor and a marine museum with lots of old types of boats. We also rode past the USS Midway Aircraft carrier. We didn’t pay to go out on it because we have done that before. Next, we rode through a cool place with shops and restaurants called Seaport Marina Park. After killing about 2 hours with our ride, we returned our bikes at the Gaslamp district. We decided to walk around Petco park.
By the time we got there, around 10:30, they were already opening the gates. We went in and walked around the park. We were some of the few people there and all the vendors were super nice to us. Trey got to hit in the wiffle ball park for a while. The main gates opened a little later that would get us to the field. We watched the Rangers warm up and Trey ended up getting 5 players autographs and he got a few balls. The players were really laid back and some of them were really friendly speaking to the fans. By now, we were starving, so we went in search of food. It was Taco Tuesday, so all the taco stands were cheap. We sampled most of them and they were excellent. My favorite was the fried fish or the mahi tacos. Trey really liked the steak tacos.
Our seats were about 10 rows behind the Rangers dugout. The game was awesome, the Rangers won big, and the weather was even better. It cleared up and was about 72 degrees and sunny. There were only about 5000 fans in the whole park and it seemed like most were Rangers fans. You can see how empty it was in our pictures!
After the game, we took a cab to the airport. We had plenty of time to get some food and charge our phones. The flight was delayed a little. We landed back at Love around 10pm. It was a long day, but it was great. I’m so glad we did it. San Diego has an awesome stadium made even better by the beautiful weather.
